What is The Last Alaskans about?

"The Last Alaskans" is a reality television series that debuted in 2015 on Animal Planet. On April 12, 2016, the Discovery Channel aired the second season. On November 25, 2018, the fourth season began on the Discovery Channel. The show covers the lives of many families and people who are among the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge's last remaining occupants in Alaska. Because of a rule implemented in 1980, only a restricted number of families are permitted to dwell in the region. The Lewis family (consisting of husband Ray, wife Cindy, and their daughters), the Korth family (consisting of Heimo, his wife Edna, and their daughters), the Salitros family (consisting of Tyler and Ashley), and the Seldens family (consisting of Bob and his daughter Jessie) are the main characters in the series. These folks live in the refuge and rely on subsistence hunting and fishing for a living.

The show provides an intimate and immersive insight into their everyday lives, highlighting their problems, achievements, and the difficulties they encounter living in one of Alaska's most remote and hostile places. It focuses on their efforts to preserve their way of life, maintain their connection to nature, and pass along their traditions and talents to future generations. "The Last Alaskans" shows viewers the beauty and roughness of the Alaskan wilderness, as well as the profound bonds these families have with the land and animals that surround them. The show delves into issues such as survival, self-sufficiency, and the constant struggle to preserve a traditional way of life in the face of modern problems and encroachment.

"The Last Alaskans" has received accolades for its realism, spectacular cinematography, and gripping stories of the families portrayed during its run. It has a devoted following and offers viewers a unique viewpoint on living in the Alaskan tundra.

  •  Why the Lewis family is no longer on The Last Alaskans?

The Lewis family vanished from view during the third season of the show after making frequent appearances in the first and second seasons. Fans were alarmed by this and feared the worse. When it was subsequently revealed that Ray and his family had been removed from the show, Discovery validated their worries. Additionally, the channel released an explanation. Ray's enthusiasm for houseboats was evident during the previous seasons of the show. He finished building the boat he was working on after the second season ended and carried the family across the waters of Alaska. Producers found it annoying to incorporate them in the series as Ray began to spend more time at sea than on land. Ray didn't fit the show's premise because he wasn't longer residing in the Alaskan refuge. The Lewis family was thus removed from the series.

  • Where is Lewis's family now?

The Lewis family is still at the houseboat. The family hasn't given much information about where they are now since leaving the sanctuary three years ago. The other daughters of Ray and Cindy have moved to the mainland, but they still reside aboard the boat with their youngest daughter, Sarah. In Oregon, Molly relocated to the south and began working as an excursion leader. Emma, however, teamed up with Charlie Jagow and began working with sled dogs.
