What has happened to Ashley Dunn-Bratcher before the show?

Ashley Dunn-Bratcher was born in Kemp, Texas, United States, in 1989. Ashley's battle with weight began when she was a young child.  When she was very young, she used food as a coping strategy and a source of enjoyment. Ashley developed an unhealthy relationship with eating at a young age as a result of her childhood experiences. Ashley and her siblings lived with their drug-using mother after her parents separated when she was five years old. For many hours, Ashley and her siblings were left at the home of their babysitter. She continued by saying that when she was six years old, the babysitter's husband frequently abused her. Ashley, who was the oldest of the siblings, felt responsible for them, kept quiet during these painful events, and instead turned to food as an escape. By the sixth grade, she was 250 pounds, and by the time she finished high school, she was 400 pounds. Despite shedding 95 pounds following the birth of her son Patrick, she reverted to her old habits and began to gain weight while happily married to her husband Jacob.

Weight loss journey

Ashley was featured in season 4, episode 7, in 2016. Ashley was devastated by her own predicament since she was forced to rely on her son rather than be able to care for him. She then made the decision to travel to Dr. Now in Houston and improve her physical condition in order to live a healthy life with her husband and children. Ashley needed to drop some weight before she could be given the go-ahead for surgery, so Dr. Now created a calorie-restricted weight loss plan for her to adhere to. Ashley followed his counsel very seriously and was able to shed an unexpected 123 pounds—far more than was requested. After the gastric bypass procedure was complete, she was warned against under-eating to prevent nutritional loss. Following that, there were several hiccups, such as when Ashley overdosed on pills, resulting in hospitalization due to ulcer development. During her stay in the hospital, she also underwent a gallbladder procedure. Despite these obstacles, Ashley was able to lose almost 330 pounds.
