Before appearing on the Tv reality show, My 600-lb Life, Dottie weighed more than 21 stone (300lb) at the age of 18 and had been hospitalized multiple times due to her weight. She attributes her bad behaviors to a lack of love and attention from her family as a child. Dottie also lost her 13-year-old son after he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and scoliosis, compounding her health problems.

"It hurt a lot, and food is what comforted me. "At one point I was putting on a couple of pounds every week.

Weight loss journey

My 600-lb Life star, Dottie Perkins was featured on season 4, episode 5, in 2016. Dottie experienced ups and downs during her time on My 600lb Life, but she was finally able to lose weight and go under 300 pounds. After her 13-year-old son, who had been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and scoliosis, died, she needed to be hospitalized owing to her ballooning weight, and Dr. Now had to give her a good dose of tough love. It was a tough road, but looking across social media, it looks as though Dottie has done a good job of keeping the weight off so far. That doesn't imply that things have been easy sailing ever since her segment aired.

Lawsuit

Dottie made the decision to go on a healthy life path while she was on My 600-lb Life, but she subsequently chose to sue the production company of the show. Dottie is one of a number of program participants who later filed a complaint against the business, saying they had mental distress during shooting. The producers were accused of misrepresenting Dottie's weight reduction progress in her complaint. She said that she dropped weight gradually, although the television broadcast occasionally showed that she had put on weight. In addition, she stated in her complaint that Megalomedia had pledged to cover the costs of her several operations, but that instead, it had left her with a significant medical debt. A court rejected the business's plea to have the claims dismissed in 2020, but this decision has since been reversed.

Before being included in the series, according to Megalomedia, the show's participants signed a number of contracts.

"I feel like I’m in hell, and I have to get back home to see Landon," she said of her 4-year-old son. "He can’t keep going without me."

Though her stay in Houston ultimately proved to be beneficial, the two-hour follow-up ended with Dottie quitting Dr. Now’s weight loss program. She told the camera that she was leaving her husband of five years, Chris, due to his drinking problem.

"I honestly don’t think Chris is going to really change like he needs and truly give up alcohol because I’ve been through this before with him a long time ago," Dottie, who last popped up on her spouse’s Facebook page in November, admitted.

"But the only way for me and Landon to go back home and into that environment again is for him to care about us more than getting drunk and lying about it," she stated. "So if he wants us back, he’s going to have to change all that for good. But I just don’t see that happening."
