  • About My 600-lb Life

"My 600-lb Life" is a reality television series that shows the tremendous problems of morbidly obese people who frequently weigh more than 600 pounds. Each episode chronicles the patients' difficult travels over time as they seek to reduce weight and restore their health under the supervision of Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, a renowned bariatric surgeon. The show dives into their physical, emotional, and psychological struggles, shining light on the enormous toll obesity has on their lives, relationships, and daily activities. It demonstrates their commitment to rigid diets, workout routines, and, when required, life-changing weight loss operations. While some participants find extraordinary success in losing weight and improving their health, the series does not shy away from portraying those who do not.

Early Life of Doug Armstrong

My 600-lb Life star, Doug Armstrong was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. He has faced many traumas during his childhood. In one episode, Doug shares a story of his troubled boyhood. His mother raised him and his brother primarily on her own because his military father was stationed far from the house. Doug's mother left the two kids with her in-laws when Doug was around 6 years old. When Doug's father went away, he hired a number of nannies and acquaintances to watch the boys. Doug was assaulted when he was 8 years old by the nanny's kid. He started eating to soothe himself at that point, which led to a weight increase that would continue untreated for years. Doug had gained 200 pounds by the sixth grade. He weighed about 350 pounds when he was 18 years old. And by the time he was 26 years old, he weighed 450 pounds.

What has happened to Doug Armstrong on the show?

When Doug appeared on the show, he felt adjustments had to be made since he was unable to work and could not move. Doug traveled to Houston to meet Dr. Now, where he was astonished to discover that his weight had increased to 685 pounds. To be eligible for weight reduction surgery, Dr. Now set Doug a target of dropping 50 pounds in the first month of the program. Doug made some progress but fell well short of the objective; yet, the setback strengthened his dedication to the program. Doug had shed 84 pounds overall by the conclusion of the second month at which point he qualified for weight loss surgery.

Weight loss journey

Doug continued losing weight after the successful treatment, but the rate was sluggish. He lost just 19 pounds over two months after the operation, significantly less than the 60 pounds Dr. Now anticipated. While the majority of individuals reach a plateau when their weight reduction significantly slows, Doug's was happening much too quickly. After being told to see a counselor, he started to face his mother's desertion and the emotional trauma of his upbringing. Doug shed an amazing 222 pounds at the year's conclusion.

Relationship

My 600-lb Life star, Doug began partying after his divorce from his first wife, which is how he met Ashley. Ashley was bored of the constant party atmosphere and ended their relationship. Doug fell deeper into despair after the separation. Whereas food had been his go-to drug for most of his life, Doug began misusing methamphetamines, eventually taking meth "all day, every day" for two years. Fortunately, Doug was able to go off the drug and reestablish his relationship with Ashley. Despite the fact that he was no longer using meth, his food addiction persisted, pushing his weight into the 660-pound area.

With his body suffering, he couldn't even get out of bed without the assistance of his wife, Ashley. He felt guilty and ashamed for having to rely on her so heavily, hoping that one day she would draw the line and declare enough was enough. Ashley's love for Doug was obvious, but caring for her husband while raising a 4-year-old child and newborn twins was difficult. In 2019, he and Ashley welcomed a child to their family.

Where is Doug Armstrong now?

Doug's weight had increased by three pounds by the time he returned. Doug was able to get back on track and lose 79 pounds in two months after resuming treatment and receiving assistance from his wife, dropping him below the 400-pound threshold for the first time in years. His development qualified him for the first of multiple skin removal operations. Doug's arms had seven pounds of skin and fatty tissue removed by Dr. Now. By the end of his "Where Are They Now?" episode, Doug was aiming to lose 328 pounds in order to have a baby. Doug is continuing to work hard to meet his objectives. Doug's sustained success will hopefully be revealed in a future "Where Are They Now?" episode.
