So, when he turned ten, he began putting on weight and consuming junk food. At age ten, he had gained 100 pounds before he knew it, causing his stepfather to evict him from the family home. Ryan Barkdoll went to illicit substances, cigarette smoking, and binge eating because he felt hopeless. Then, one day, his instructors caught him in possession of marijuana, and they expelled him from the football squad. However, this made things worse for him because he started abusing opiates and cocaine tablets. Ryan Barkdoll was only 18 years old and over 300 pounds at the time all of these events occurred.

At the start of season 10 in 2021, Ryan Barkdoll weighed 740 pounds and resided with his mother Tammy and her lover Leroy. The 31-year-old had no control over his appetite, couldn't even sleep on his bed, and had to use a recliner chair due to his girth. He was buried in his addiction and just scraping by on disability benefits. He also only took a bath once a week.

Thankfully, a buddy assisted the native of Oregon in obtaining another position in Montana; nevertheless, due to his girth, he was promptly sacked. In order to eventually be self-sufficient and start a life and family of his own, Ryan understood he needed assistance.

Thus, he started working with Dr. Now to lose weight, despite the fact his habit of utilizing food as a coping mechanism persisted for a long time. Despite his mother's best efforts to cook him delicious meals, he was unable to follow the 1,200-calorie, no-carb diet that Dr. Now had advised.
