On the Discovery Channel, a reality television program called "Bering Sea Gold '' is broadcast. The series, which had its first episode debut in 2012, has since gained popularity and longevity. The main focus is on the life of gold miners who toil in the difficult and perilous Bering Sea off the coast of Nome, Alaska. Nome, Alaska, a distant and historically significant gold mining town, serves as the show's primary setting. Gold mining has played a significant role in Rome's history for more than a century. The town is well renowned for its abundant gold reserves. The cast of gold miners in "Bering Sea Gold'' is diverse, and each one has their own special techniques and characteristics. The cast consists of individuals and groups who recover gold from the ocean floor using a variety of tools, including dredges, sluice boxes, and suction dredges. The intense rivalry among the miners is one of the show's main themes. Miners frequently compete with one another and the clock to extract as much gold as they can during the brief mining season due to the few regions that are allowed for mining and the expensive expense of equipment and operations. The Bering Sea's erratic and hazardous weather, equipment failures, and the ongoing danger of accidents while operating in the frigid, deep waters provide the miners with a number of difficulties. These difficulties provide the show drama and intensity.

He was also dealing with personal concerns at the time, including the felony heroin trafficking and possession charges brought against his daughter Yvonne, who was arrested in December 2014. Even if it were revealed that Vernon would return to the 11th season of "Bering Sea Gold" in 2019, people wouldn't fully believe he was still alive since they are so accustomed to the contrived drama of reality TV shows.
