On February 7, 2021 Billy Brown, aged 68, passed away in his home in Washington, as announced by the Discovery Channel on February 09, 2021. His son, Bear Brown, subsequently shared on Instagram that his father had experienced a seizure.

The death report states that a crew member from Alaskan Bush People dialed 911 at 4:13 p.m. on Feb. 7 after receiving a distress call from Bear, who reported that Brown had ceased breathing. Bear had reached out to the crew member because he was unable to connect with the police. A deputy from the Washington Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the location. The officer’s report, as cited by The Sun, stated that a 68-year-old male, who had reportedly suffered a seizure, had become unresponsive and stopped breathing despite attempts at CPR.

The officer observed several individuals present at the scene, most of whom were family members, with the exception of three members from the production crew. A medical helicopter was summoned, but it was confirmed by the Sheriff’s office that Brown had passed away at home. The spokesperson stated that the medics and fire department had been at the scene for an hour and a half before the Sheriff’s Office was notified, as they responded to all deaths, and there was no suspicion of foul play.

The Discovery Channel made a public announcement of Brown’s passing on social media on Monday, describing him as a pioneer, a wonderful man, and unique. Bear posted a more detailed account of his father’s death on Instagram, expressing that his father was their best friend, a loving father, grandfather, and husband who will be greatly missed. He added that his father lived life on his own terms, off the grid and off the land, and instilled the same values in them. They intend to respect his legacy and carry forward his dream.
